Ceramics and Skulls!
For March at the Alley Gallery and Art Studios we are showcasing two new artists’ work, Krystal Mackey’s ceramics and Christine Hardy’s beaded skulls.
Krystal Mackey will be at The Alley for March ArtWalk, 3/6 5-8 pm to show new ceramics in her favorite charming color palettes. She works with clay made locally in Denver by Rocky Mountain Clay, which draws from a rich and varied range of Colorado clay deposits. Krystal also reclaims her stoneware clay by collecting unused pieces, rehydrating and allowing it to rest, and then wedging it back into workable clay. Her colors range from peaceful sky colors to the zing of lime and blood orange.
Christine Hardy is a veterinarian who brings her equine acupuncture skills, and now her artistically decorated skulls to Steamboat Springs regularly. She has found skulls or been given them by hunters and ranchers. The beading technique is inspired by the Huichol artists of Mexico. Influenced by these traditional artists, Christine uses brightly colored beads and semi precious stones to form symbols, patterns, and tell visual stories on the wildlife skulls.
As usual, we will also have work showing by Ann Feldman and Jill Bergman as well as small work and gifts by other local artists. Our regular hours are 11-5 Wednesday through Saturday, and ArtWalk, the first Friday of each month, 5-8 pm.
